Thanks for highlighting this, I happen to be (slowly) working on a
project to decode the time standard signal (Bell 103, 300bps AFSK) as
a frequency / time reference source.
So I would not be interested in seeing the terminating the service at
7.335 MHz, as many locations may not have a 80m (3.33 MHz) antenna
setup due to size limitations. Nevermind the impact on dependable
availability if the two remaining sources are 80m and 20m.
Of course given the falling costs of GPS and GPS modules, decoding
CHU's signal might not be as cost effective reference source as the
low-end costs of a GPS without a display. The biggest reason to not
use a GPS based source is that the satellites are owned and controlled
by the US Department of Defense, who can degrade the signal (SA) or
even turn off the signal of individual satellites (typically mentioned
as a means of disabling a GPS guided missle, while keeping US troops /
"interests" unhampered).
At least I didn't go and splurge on an OCXO yet.
