Some may have also been intrigued by the news story today proclaiming
that MIT scientists had discovered how to transmit useful amounts of
electic power without wires. It's not Glowbug, but it IS quite
fascinating, and does use RF:

I was curious about this "non radiative energy transfer" and the use of
"strongly coupled magnetic resonances" so I did some digging and found a
technical paper that explains the mechanism in detail:
http://arxiv.org/ftp/physics/papers/0611/0611063.pdf Even if you skip
thru the math you can get the gist of it, and this isn't plain old
induction, nor is it what Tesla did. Looks like ideal turf for home
experimentation, especially to those who can whip up an RF exciter and
something that looks like a six-meter halo.
A presentation by Dr. /Marin Soljac(ic' at the 2006 AIP Industrial
Physics forum can be found here: http://www.aip.org/ca/2006/soljacic.pdf
Who says there's nothing new under the sun? Except for new ways of thinking!
